What is the Nextcloud tool?

Nextcloud can be used to provide file hosting services with browser based access but also desktop and mobile applications. It can easily be connected to Contabo's Object Storage in order to store and retrieve data.

Please follow the installation instruction here if you are interested in using this tool. You will need the following information if you want to install and use Nextcloud with Contabo's Object Storage:

  • access_key
  • secret_key
  • Contabo's S3 URL
  • your bucket name

How do I setup Nextcloud with Contabo's Object Storage?

Please follow the steps below in order to use Contabo's Object Storage as external storage:

  1. Select on the upper right admin user and then " Apps".

  2. Enable "External storage support".

  3. Go to "Settings" via upper right admin user.

  4. On left hand side, via the Administration section, select "External Storage".

  5. Specify the values for a new external storage as outlined below:

    Folder name e.g. Contabo S3 Object Storage
    External Storage = e.g Amazon S3
    Authentication = Access Key
    Bucket = e.g nextcloud
    Hostname = e.g eu2.contabostorage.com
    Port = e.g 443
    Region = default
    Check Enable SSL
    Check Enable Path Style
    Access Key = e.g 82046e8110804a43bf29c1ae426a724d
    Secret Key = e.g 82e69bd7a52076c527154297a76c2233

    Nextcloud Add App
  6. Click save (the little checkmark icon at the right).
  7. Navigate to files, there you should see the folder "Contabo S3 Object Storage" and you are now able to upload and download files to the S3 Object Storage.
