If you have your own windows license, it can only be used on a Dedicated Server. It is not possible to use your own Windows license on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or a Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS).

Due to the license agreement between Contabo and Microsoft, it is not possible to use your own Windows license on a VPS or VDS. Instead, you must use the Windows Server license provided by Contabo. The terms of the license agreement require Contabo to charge a monthly fee for a Windows Server, which is determined by the size of the VPS/VDS you order.

If you have a Contabo dedicated server, you can use your own Windows license on it.

How to Order a Windows License for Your Server

If you'd like to order a Windows license through Contabo, follow these steps in your Customer Control Panel:

1. Navigate to Your Services
2. Locate the server in question
3. Hover over Manage
4. Select Order Windows and fill out the order form

We'll reinstall your server with the Windows version you choose as soon as possible. Once the reinstallation is complete, you'll receive a separate confirmation email.

In order to remove the Windows License from your server, we will need to reinstall it with a Linux-based operating system. Please contact support.
