Why is My IP Address In the Wrong Country?

At Contabo new IPv4 addresses are often obtained from 3rd parties and then assigned to new countries.


Because of this, some Contabo IP addresses were previously assigned to different countries and are still listed as assigned to the country they were previously assigned to by the 3rd party they were obtained from. It can take a while for these 3rd parties to update this information on their site, causing the IP address to appear from the wrong country.


Rest assured that we use all of these IP addresses only in the location where your server is located. A traceroute from your local device to the IP address of your server should show that the IP address is indeed assigned to the correct country.
