Why is My IP Address In the Wrong Country?

At Contabo new IPv4 addresses are often obtained from 3rd parties and then assigned to new countries.

Because of this some Contabo IP addresses have been assigned to other countries previously and are still listed as being assigned to the country they used to be assigned to by the 3rd party they were obtained from. It can take a while for these 3rd parties to update this information on their side which causes the IP address to appear from the incorrect country. 

You can be assured that we do use all these IP addresses only in the location where your server is located. A traceroute from your local device to the IP address of your server should be insightful show that the IP address is actually assigned to the correct country.
