Can I install my own Linux Operating System on my VPS?

It is possible to install your own Linux Operating System (OS) by mounting your own .iso file. 


How you do this depends on whether you're going to set this up for an existing VPS or a new one. Please find below guides on how to do this for for new and existing VPS's below.


How can I install my own Linux OS on an existing VPS?

You will need to provide a URL pointing to the desired ISO image to the customer support team.


You can raise a ticket with the customer support team via the Customer Control Panel here.


Mounting an .iso file costs €27.50 / $33.00 / £28.60 plus VAT (where applicable) per 15 minutes of work.


To note the installation of Windows on a of Contabo VPS requires a Windows licenses provided by Contabo. The usage of your own Windows license is possible only on Contabo Dedicated Servers.


How can I install my own Linux OS on a new VPS?

Place your order on the Contabo website here and click on the "Customize and order" button, which you can find below the VPS model of your interest. 


You will be forwarded to the specific configuration menu. You will have to choose one of the free Linux operating systems in order to be able to proceed (it does not matter which Linux distribution you select).

To be provided with your mounted ISO image, it is required to leave a note during the order process, informing the installation team that you want to install your own operating system. You can make the note in the "Information" text boxes shown at step two of the order process below the fields for your personal data. In your note you will also have to provide a URL pointing to the desired ISO image.
